Executive Summary
Industry Background
The intermodal industry within the United States is estimated at $8 Billion in annual revenues per year. Intermodal freight is freight which is shipped in combination of
multiple modes of rail and local cartage. Until very recently this industry enjoyed double digit annual growth.
Over the last 15 years, there has been considerable consolidation in the industry. One result of this consolidation has been an overall deterioration in the service available
to most intermodal customers. Many customers today voice concern that they have fewer and fewer options for intermodal service providers and that in addition, the providers
available are less willing to work consultatively with them to optimize their intermodal freight movements. This sort of consultative creativity in shipping solutions is what
initially drew most of these customers to consider and leverage the benefits of intermodal freight options.
Celtic International Formation
This document outlines the preliminary business plan for creation of Celtic International, a new company formed to focus on the growing opportunities in intermodal logistics. Celtic has been formed by a seasoned management team with extensive experience in the industry. Richard Hyland, founding CEO & President, built and managed Cross Con Terminals from 1977 until 1998. Cross Con was one of the nation’s leading Intermodal Marketing Companies (IMC) with nearly $100 million in annual sales. Richard was President of Pacer Intermodal from 1998 until 2000. The entire initial team brings over 150 years of combined experience in intermodal logistics.
Leveraging this team’s extensive customer, railroad, trucking, warehousing, and other logistics network experiences will enhance the initial success of Celtic and offer a unique opportunity for rapid internally generated growth. As the business expands, the operational excellence and systems superiority will set Celtic well ahead of it’s competitors by delivering excellent customer service and establishing an industry reputation for outstanding service at very competitive prices.
